Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice offers a wide range of health, support and volunteer services designed to meet the needs of recovering, disabled, chronically or terminally ill persons and their families or caregivers. Just a few of the services we offer include:

HOME CARE – This program keeps you living independently in your home by assisting with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and errands assistance.

HOME HEALTH – This program can help you recover from illness or injury in the comfort of your own home.

TRANSITIONS – This free program provides emotional assistance and practical support to anyone faced with the challenges that often accompany a serious illness.

HOSPICE – This program provides dignified, compassionate care to anyone in the final stages of their life.

For Home Health and Hospice services, your primary care physician will order the care. However, anyone can make a referral to Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice for services at any time. For example, your spouse may call to inquire about services and then we would gladly contact your doctor to discuss orders.

Home Health and in-home Hospice care is for individuals living in Manhattan (including assisted living centers or nursing homes) and a 45-mile surrounding radius. Hospice clients cared for at The Good Shepherd Hospice House do not have to live within that service area as the hospice house will accept clients residing in any county or any state.

Home Care services do not require a doctor’s order and anyone can refer to services. We provide Home Care services to individuals living in Manhattan and a 45-mile surrounding radius.

Our Home Care, Home Health and Hospice at home programs are provided to anyone living in Manhattan (including assisted living centers or nursing homes) and a 45-mile surrounding radius of Manhattan. Hospice clients cared for at The Good Shepherd Hospice House do not have to live within that service area, as the hospice house will accept clients residing in any county or any state.

Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice services are provided by a team consisting of:

• Registered Nurses
• Licensed Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and Speech Therapist
• Licensed Medical Social Workers
• Certified Home Health Aides
• Registered Dietician
• Hospice Chaplain
• Certified Nurses Aides
• Volunteers

Services are paid for by health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid or self-pay using a sliding fee scale based on the person’s income. Memorial and support contributions are gratefully accepted and are directed toward unfunded client care. It is our policy to never let an inability to pay be a barrier to receiving care.

As the only LOCAL NON-PROFIT provider of hospice, home health, and support services we have been the trusted choice by the community for more than 30 years.

We believe that In order to provide quality care, it is essential to work closely with our medical community—including doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, community mental health centers, etc.
We are proud to share that when asked if they would recommend Homecare & Hospice to their patients, 100% of physicians responded “YES”.

We also work with various social service agencies, such as the North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging, three separate Independent Living Centers and the Riley County Senior Center.

Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice has received grants from the City of Manhattan and Riley County to continue and improve on the services provided to older and disabled individuals. These funds also allow the Agency to provide necessary services to all people, regardless of their ability to pay.

No. The staff at Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice are specially trained to provide comfort and care for any terminal diagnosis. Including cancer, heart diseases, respiratory diseases, neurological diseases, kidney disease and any other diagnosis deemed hospice appropriate by your primary care physician.

No. A person qualifies for Hospice when a physician diagnoses them with a terminal illness with a prognosis of six months or less to live, although people often live longer than that. Hospice does its best work when there is time to care for the emotional needs of the client and family – a task that requires trust, sensitivity and time.

Many clients come onto Hospice when treatment is no longer an option and yet symptoms have not yet fully developed, giving them time to truly get the most out of Hospice and, more importantly, get the most out of the rest of their life.

On numerous occasions have cared for individuals for over a year on hospice care in their home and our longest staying client at The Good Shepherd Hospice House was with us for 10 months.

At any time during a life-limiting illness, it is appropriate to discuss all of your health care options, including Hospice.

Understandably, most people are uncomfortable with the idea of stopping an all-out effort to “beat” their disease. Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice team members are highly sensitive to these concerns and are always available to discuss health care options.

Absolutely not. The Good Shepherd Hospice House is beautiful and only exists thanks to the generosity and support of more than 1,200 individuals, businesses and foundations in our community. The entire facility was funded 100% by donations and continues to be sustained by the memorial donations and fundraising events hosted by the Homecare & Hospice Foundation.

Last year alone, Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice provided more than $69,000 worth of charitable care to individuals who were unable to pay for the care they needed.

At The Good Shepherd Hospice House, the hospice care provided is typically covered by Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance. The only portion that is typically not covered, is the Room & Board. We have set very reasonable Room & Board rates that are in line with the same rates found at any of the local skilled nursing facilities.
